Project goals:

On the morning of 8 November 2013, category 5 typhoon ‘Haiyan’ (locally known as Yolanda) made direct contact with the Philippines, a densely populated country of approx. 92 million people, and devastated areas in 36 provinces. Many barangays (villages) and towns experienced widespread destruction, with up to 100% of housing destroyed in some areas because of winds which ripped off roofs, collapsed buildings, shattered windows and inundated coastal regions with an incredible storm surge. The DSWD (Department of Social Welfare and Development) estimated that more than 14.1million people (about 15% of the country’s population) in Barangays have been affected by Typhoon Yolanda, and that 6’201 persons lost their lives. More than 1.1 million houses were damaged, out of which about half were completely destroyed and half partially damaged.

To respond to the overall objective, the following outcomes (specific objectives) will be achieved:

1. At least 20 most vulnerable families live in typhoon and earthquake resistant, extendable, low-maintenance core houses.

2. At least 20 most vulnerable families receive flush toilets while the type of toilet depends on the water tables in the targeted communities.
