The countries of the Western Balkans are in transition: While economy and democracy are booming, a part of society continues to suffer from unemployment and poverty. In rural areas this is especially true for women and adolescents.
In January 2014 Volkshilfe established the three-year program "SEED" (Support of Educational and Employment Development) to support those parts of society being at risk of poverty.
In cooperation with local partner organizations and the "Austrian Development Agency", Volkshilfe provides support for adolescents and women for entering the labor market.
"SEED" stands for a sustainable kind of development. The program does not only focus on measures for the creation of jobs and income but also on the provision of education.
Volkshilfe is able to contribute here with its extensive experience in establishing socio-economic enterprises. The offered educational measures consist of learning groups, workshops, and exchange programs for adolescents and women. Volkshilfe further supports the professionalization of urgently needed mobile nursing services.
Moreover, entrepreneurs, local and regional authorities, as well as stakeholders of the educational systems will too be involved in awareness-rising measures in the field of gender equality.
