Humanitarian Aid in Idlib

Empoverment of women/children and Covid-19 prevention

IDLIB Province is one of the last strongholds of Syrian rebels and home to 2,7 Million IDPs from places all over Syria.

Humanitarian needs remain high in the IDP-Camps, which often lack supply of basic goods, medical care, educational infrastructure, and others. Furthermore the economic situation is deteriorating due to the ongoing economic/ financial crises all over Syria as well as Lebanon. In addition, Idlib is hit by Covid-19, with a daily ratio of newly infected patients that increased from 300 to 900 persons per day in December 2020. The pandemic is hitting an area, where access to health care and treatment remains insufficient. Due to the hostilities since 2011, the health system in Syria, in northwestern Syria in particular has been systematically destroyed, hospitals and clinics bombed, doctors and health care workers attacked.

To address these challenges the project will deepen knowledge and awareness skills of women and illiterate children in Idlib and contribute to Covid-19 prevention campaigns in the IDP camps through the following activities:

  • distribution of hygiene kits to IDP households
  • awareness sessions on hygiene and covid 19 – prevention
  • literacy classes to women and children as well as regular courses and
  • counselling to women through the women’s centre in Idlib city
