Economic and psycho-social Support

Emergency aid in Chernivtsi and Dnipro

Chernivtsi and Dnipro are cities in which a large number of people have found refuge - Chernivtsi has over 64,000 refugees and Dnipro over 167,000. Many of them have lost their homes, their assets and their livelihoods, and their living situations and needs vary greatly. Volkshilfe supports the most vulnerable among them with cash assistance.

The war leads to increased levels of anxiety and stress for many people. It intensifies psychological problems and tensions. Volkshilfe works together with psychologists and provides professional psycho-social counselling.

Furthermore, social workers advise the refugees to help them find their way around their new place of residence. Both legal issues and social activities for adults and children - painting courses, discussion groups, readings, self-awareness groups, handicraft courses and the like - are offered. As well as providing a distraction from everyday life during the war, these offer the opportunity to make new friends and socialise with others.

The project is funded by the Austrian Development Cooperation Programme.
