Humanitarian Aid

Focussing on sustainability and capacity building, Volkshilfe has been providing international aid since 1951.
During the 70 years since its establishment, Volkshilfe Austria’s humanitarian approach and solidarity have been applied also to the international level to support people in need around the world. As part of international collaborations with networks of aid providers and local partner organisations, Volkshilfe has implemented numerous projects and programmes in almost 30 countries.

In the event of acute crises and major disasters, humanitarian aid responds quickly by delivering swift and unbureaucratic assistance. Special attention is paid to particularly vulnerable groups (women, children, the elderly, sick and/or disabled persons, etc.) by providing them with food, medicine, water, blankets, accommodation and more. In addition to urgent interventions in the initial phase of disasters, Volkshilfe supports projects of rehabilitation, reconstruction and disaster prevention. Volkshilfe has committed itself to comply with international quality standards in humanitarian aid (Code of Conduct for the Red Cross Movement, SPHERE-Standards). Furthermore, Volkshilfe is a cooperation partner of the „Neighbour in Need” Foundation (Stiftung "Nachbar in Not")..

Our Targets:

swift and unbureaucratic assistance in crisis situations
priority for the protection of and assistance for particularly vulnerable groups (e.g. people with disabilities, children, the elderly, sick persons, pregnant women)
capacity building

humanitarian aid (protection of life, alleviation of suffering, and safeguarding of human dignity)
rehabilitation and reconstruction
disaster prevention
