The humanitarian crisis in Syria is being exacerbated for hundreds of thousands of people and families by the influence of extremist and terrorist groups. In addition to the problems of coping with everyday life and conflicts, the situation is also causing severe psychological stress.
This is where our project partner Hiro Center for Dialogue and Rehabilitation comes in with its humanitarian peace work and works primarily for and with women and children in the following areas:
- Resilience and coming to terms with the events of the war
- Raising awareness for peaceful coexistence
- Empowerment for the most self-determined life possible
The project Rehabilitation of Victims of War and Extremism organises various activities in refugee camps in the north and east of the country.
In workshops, refugee family members who belong to the ideology of the so-called Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) and victims of war and ISIS violence come into contact and dialogue with each other. The project aims to involve women in particular, who have been exposed to war and extremist ideology for many years, in conflict prevention, protect their rights and promote peaceful coexistence in the refugee camps in the country.
The planned activities focus on joint dialogue and joint action and range from moderated discussions and role-playing games to creative activities and the joint preparation of meals.
In a protected environment, encounters are facilitated, violence is stopped and the foundations for an open and democratic society are laid.
