Development Cooperation

Focussing on sustainability and capacity building, Volkshilfe has been providing international aid since 1951.
During 70 years since its establishment, Volkshilfe Austria’s humanitarian approach and solidarity have been applied also to the international level to support people in need around the world. As part of international collaborations with networks of aid providers and local partner organisations, Volkshilfe has implemented numerous projects and programmes in almost 30 countries.

In the development and implementation of projects, Volkshilfe is oriented towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set by the United Nations. The SDGs are aimed, amongst others, at poverty eradication, decent work, good health and wellbeing, quality education for all and reduced inequalities.
Together with professional local partners, we are working on a sustainable long-term reduction of global disparities in socio-economic development as well as in general living conditions.

Our Targets:

  • social justice
  • capacity building
  • reinforcement of civil society through the support of their voices

To achieve these objectives, we particularly address the following areas:

  • education of children, youths and adults
  • social inclusion and promotion of marginalized groups (e.g people experiencing poverty, ethnic minorities, disabled persons)
  • promotion of women
  • social services (transfer of Austrian know-how, good governance etc.)
