Following the devastating double earthquake in Venezuela, the number of people killed and injured continues to rise. Venezuela’s emergency services are overwhelmed by the scale of the disaster and urgently require international support.
Together with our partner organisations AWO International and Fomento del Desarrollo Popular (FUDEP), Volkshilfe is providing emergency relief to people in La Guaira, the city hardest hit by the earthquake.
The combination of widespread destruction, disrupted transport routes and ongoing panic caused by hundreds of aftershocks has created a critical humanitarian situation for thousands of families.
The extremely crowded emergency shelters significantly increase the risk of infectious diseases and gastrointestinal illnesses.
Access to hygiene products is therefore essential to help protect the health of those affected. As part of the initial emergency response, 500 hygiene kits are being distributed in the emergency shelters.
Contents of the hygiene kits:
- Soap
- Toothpaste and toothbrushes
- Toilet paper
- Blankets
- Deodorant
- Shampoo
- Menstrual hygiene products
- Diapers
